Merry Christmas! I know there are less than two hours left of this special holiday, but every hour is important when it comes to celebrating Christmas.
This Christmas was a little bittersweet as we are saying good-bye to one family tradition and ushering in a new one. From the time our kids could walk and be excited about Santa, we have always had the tradition of them running into the living room to see what he left for them in their stockings.
More than likely, this year was the last year that our kids performed the perfunctory routine. We have always appreciated that they have done it even into adulthood, but with our son turning 25 and our daughter and her fiancee being 22 and 23, maybe it's time to let this tradition go. We are lucky that they have always humored us and dug deep into their stockings for the yearly apple and quarter in the bottom toe of their stockings.
As we say good-bye to this tradition, we continued a new one for the second year in a row: mimosas and monkey bread for breakfast. We hang out in the kitchen in the morning and have our breakfast treat with fun conversations as we wipe the sleep from our eyes and anticipate what fun the day will bring.
So, even though it's a little sad to say good-bye to one tradition signifying the true end of their childhood (even though it was gone a few years back), we are enjoying saying hello to a new one for many years to come.
Lesson learned: Enjoy traditions but be okay with letting some go and starting new ones.
