I love short road trips.
Yesterday I went to Nebraska City for my nephew Grayson's 7th birthday party. My husband wasn't able to go with me, so it was a solo trip.
I got caught up on listening to podcasts from last week. The timing was great, because I wasn't sure when or if I was going to get to listen to them. Last week got away from me.
It was a beautiful day for a drive. The sun was shining even though it was a little on the chilly side. Getting to see my nephews and hanging out with family is always a treat.
Then on the way back I stopped at one of my favorite places, Union Orchard. It's the only locally owned apple orchard in the area, so I'm definitely partial to it.
I worked at a different locally owned orchard picking apples for my first job ever. It was great, because there were a lot of memories made on those weekends working along side my dad and best friend Theresa. We were 13-years-old and making 50 cents a bushel. We listened to Husker football games on Saturday afternoons.
So, whenever I can I stop at Union Orchard (8 miles north of Nebraska City), and I always get apple sugar donuts (pictured). I also picked up some strawberry preserves and a naturally made candle on this trip.
I appreciate shopping locally as much as possible and purchasing products made in the area whenever I can. I think it's important to support small businesses as a small business owner myself. Yes, the cost is a little more, but it's so worth it to support someone's livelihood.
Plus, selfishly, I get to have my beloved apple donuts. :)
I'm a lover of life, an eternal optimist, and I have an intense desire to add value through simple living and positive vibes.
