365 days...a year-long goal?
Yikes, that's scary!
Okay, how about 90 days...a quarter-long goal?
Better, but still a little overwhelming.
30 days...how about a one-month focus?
Now that's something I can commit to!
I'm kind of a planner junkie, forever looking for the perfect one that is going to fit my lifestyle. I think I might have finally found one in the "30 Commit" planner. It's great, because it invites the user to do 12, 30-day goals. You can either take one big goal and break it down into 12 parts, one month building onto the next one, or you can do 12 separate goals with one each month.
I bought the planner in mid-December so that I could get a feel for it and see if I thought it would work for me. It takes you through three steps to set it up and then you track your progress along the way each day. You also have a monthly planner and daily activity to plan your time in general.
I also like it, because it's a great size. It fits nicely into my purse and isn't cumbersome at all.
My first 30 day commitment is to write for 30 minutes each day. I have already set my time each day to write. I know that it might fluctuate on some days (like having a day off...today, for example), and for me flexibility is key to making a goal work. I wish I was a person who was maybe a little more regimented, but the moment I do that I seem to get completely out of whack.
This is what I appreciate about a 30-day commitment. It's long enough to start forming a habit but not so long that I start to get bored or overwhelmed. I can tweak and change things up along the way.
So, what works for you? Do you do well with a 30-day, 90-day, or 365-day commitment?
I'm a lover of life, an eternal optimist, and I have an intense desire to add value through simple living and positive vibes.
