I'm a short and to the point writer. I like to say what I want to say, show what I want to show, and be done. When I write a piece, I like the reader to be able to finish it in 2-3 minutes, reflect if the spirit moves one to do so, and then move on.
So, when I made a proposal to write a piece for an online publication and they like their pieces to be in the 1,200 word range, I felt like the task might be close to impossible for me.
It's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. In one sitting I had over 1,100 words. By the time I submitted my draft to them, it was in the 1,500 word range.
Who knew I had it in me?
Isn't it crazy how we doubt ourselves, but then we can do things when we set our minds to it?!
I learned today to have more confidence and not sell myself short. Know that I have the ability to do whatever I am passionate about as long as I'm willing to put in the effort.
I have no idea what the end result will be in this case, whether or not the publication will accept the piece. While it matters to me, the most important thing that matters is that I did it. It will make writing a longer piece easier in the future. All it takes is that first time.
I'm a lover of life, an eternal optimist, and I have an intense desire to add value through simple living and positive vibes.
