Well, hello, 2017!
I’m excited to have you here! Not in a sense that 2016 sucked and that I’m glad it’s gone. Although there were definitely some tough moments, there were also some absolutely amazing memories.
I’m talking about the kind of excitement I feel at the start of something new. I don’t know what it is, but the beginning of the year always feels so fresh with endless possibilities.
I used to make new year’s resolutions, but I don’t anymore. My philosophy has changed over time to work more to appreciate each day as it comes. I don’t know if that just comes with age, experience, or both.
The picture above is of a shirt I bought a couple of years ago, and that’s definitely at the top of my list for this year: Do more of what makes me happy.
The top of that list is to get rid of a bunch of personal debt that has been a huge anchor dragging me down for a LONG time. It may seem like a conflict by using happiness and debt in the same breath, but paying down debt will make me extremely happy. It will free me up to do a lot more of what I want to do both professionally and personally.
How am I going to do it? Focus on it one day at a time. Ask myself these questions before I make a purchase:
1. Is this a want or a need?
2. Will this add value to my life?
3. Will buying this item help me get out of debt?
I’m going to make this a passion I cultivate each day. I’m going to make it fun by looking for inexpensive ways (read FREE) to have fun, do more with family at home by making meals and playing games together, write and read more, and staying away from the temptations that lure me into spending money (physical and online shopping).
By spending less, I’m going to be doing more of what makes me happy in the long run. So, welcome 2017, I can’t wait to see what we get done!
I'm a lover of life, an eternal optimist, and I have an intense desire to add value through simple living and positive vibes.
