For many high school students, today is a rite of passage: graduation. It's a culmination of the last 13 years of growth, and it's also a celebration of that growth.
It's both exciting and scary. For some graduates, they know exactly what their next step is and they are ready for it.
For others, there is uncertainty and that's okay too. Even though the last 13 years have been spent in an educational setting, that doesn't mean a graduate knows what he/she wants to do with the rest of his/her life.
And what is even more okay is that most will experience several career changes throughout one's lifetime.
The question becomes, will those changes be embraced or feared? Sometimes we get so caught up in what it means to be successful. We get an idea fixed in our minds and we forget that success comes in many shapes and sizes. Some of the most successful people live simply, embrace flexibility, and try knowing they will fail (and they are completely okay with that).
So, think of it this way: we graduate from one day to the next one. We take what we learn and move on to the next day. We reflect on what worked and what didn't. We grow and we celebrate. One day at a time.
Enjoy the day, graduates, but also remember that everyday is a chance to learn, grow, and celebrate!
