Today not only marked the last day of the school year for students but also the end of an era for me.
I was fortunate enough to start my counseling career at Bell Field Elementary School in Fremont (NE). I can still remember the biggest thing I had to get used to going from being in a high school environment to the elementary setting: hugs from kids. And now I absolutely love giving and receiving them.
After five years in the same building either full or part-time, I get to pass the torch on to my amazing mentee, Ainslee, who has already made an incredible impact in her first year.
Although I will miss my Bell Field Bulldogs (both students and staff), I get the chance to work with students in two other elementary schools next year. I'm excited about what the future has in store for me as I continue my career as a counselor.
You see, I love change. I like the challenge of starting something new and seeing what I can do to add value to others' lives. I have fun building new relationships.
I didn't even mind the packing process that I started this afternoon in preparation for the move to my new digs. It gave me a chance to get rid of stuff I don't need anymore. Although, I did discover that for some reason I had a fetish for rulers. I found 14 of them in various areas of my office. Seriously, who needs more than one ruler??? Me, for whatever reason...
I got the last five years packed into seven boxes. I'm hopeful that when I unpack them that perhaps I will get rid of more stuff. And, my biggest hope is that I don't find more rulers.
I'm a lover of life, an eternal optimist, and I have an intense desire to add value through simple living and positive vibes.
