I saw a picture of three of my former colleagues (and dear friends) eating lunch outside on Facebook today. They looked so happy enjoying the beautiful weather and each other's company. While there was a tiny part of me that was envious as I longed to be with them, I mostly felt excited for them.
Today was the right time. It's almost the end of the school year, the weather was amazing today, and they took the time to eat together.
I didn't say it was the perfect time. It was the right time. There's a big difference.
The perfect time is waiting until everything is fully aligned before you consider doing something. It's when you're too afraid to make a change or try something new unless all the T's are crossed and the I's are dotted. And while you're waiting for that perfect time, time marches on. It doesn't care about your anxiousness and not being ready to take a leap. It continues to tick away.
And then there is the right time. The right time happens all the time. It's when you know in your gut that it's time to take that leap. You might not know exactly where you're going to land, but you're going to jump anyway because it's exciting to see what's awaiting you. Or rather, what you're going to go after with such tenacity and perseverance that you won't be denied.
The right time is knowing that even though you have a to-do list a mile long, you decide to play a game with your kids instead. It means leaving the sink full of dirty dishes and going for a walk with your spouse. It means getting in that workout even though it will put you home a little later. It means not being so rigid that you don't allow for fun in your life.
It means going outside and having lunch on an absolutely beautiful day, because you knew it was the right time.
This is the right time. Do it already!
