A few months ago I listened to the podcast, The Portfolio Life with Jeff Goins, and it was a conversation between Jeff and Andy Traub. I was excited to listen to it, because the this episode was all about why it's not too late to succeed as a writer.
In fact, the part that grabbed me was when they said, "But regardless of the voices already speaking, there's still one missing: yours."
Sometimes I get overwhelmed when I go to a bookstore and see title after title after title. There are so many books out there, and it's easy to get lost in the shuffle.
But then I go back to the fact that there isn't a single book on those shelves with my voice. There might be titles that cover the same topics I plan to write about, but it's from that author's perspective, not mine.
We all have our own unique perspective, our voice. There's not a single person out there who shares our identical beliefs, values, style, or experiences. As I work on writing my first book, that's what I continually tell myself.
It's the same with all aspects of our lives.
Sometimes I think we are afraid to take a leap, because there's not always a safety net beneath us. What if we fail? What if we make a fool of ourselves? What if we go into something and it's not what we expected?
What if...what if...what if...
We need to stop living this way. The world needs to hear our voice with our own unique perspective. Maybe it's the voice of opening our own coffee shop. Maybe it's the voice of asserting ourselves by going in and asking for that raise. Maybe it's the voice of making a big move to a completely different city. Maybe it's the voice of finally leaving the dead end job for something more personally satisfying even if it means less pay.
Maybe it's the voice of writing the book you've always wanted to write. Oh wait, that one is me.
Whatever the case, we owe it to ourselves to use our voice to take a leap. The voice inside our head needs to come out and express itself in whatever way it is meant to be. It's time to be heard.
I'm a lover of life, an eternal optimist, and I have an intense desire to add value through simple living and positive vibes.
