The deal is I am not a morning person which kind of surprises people. You see, I'm an early bird, but I'm not one of those people who gets up full of energy and enthusiasm. I'm slow to wake up and I like my quiet time.
My day starts out with feeding the animals their breakfast and taking my thyroid medicine. I follow it up with my morning Emergence-C and writing in my Five-Minute Journal. Then I meditate for 10 minutes. I've been lying in bed and listening to my meditation nature sounds lately. At first I was worried about doing it this way for fear I would fall back to sleep, but I don't. It gives my mind time to just wake up and I'm not thinking about anything because I'm still in waking up mode.
Once I'm finished, I hop in the shower. My ritual after the shower is a stretching routine and then I head down to start my coffee and make breakfast. I like the fact that I don't have to think about what I'm going to make, because it's the same thing everyday. I have an egg white omelet with veggies and cheese, 1/2 banana, and coffee. Once I'm done with that, then I have a piece of Ezekiel bread toasted with Earth Balance spread and raspberry preserves.
It's funny because even my dog Lady, a 13-year-old poodle, knows the breakfast routine. I share my omelet with her, and when we're done and I go to make my toast, she knows that she's not going to get any other table scraps. So, she snuggles in her bed in the kitchen.
Most of the time, I do a couple of things while I'm making breakfast. One is that I make my lunch and then the other might be unloading the dishwasher, sweeping the floor, or going through the mail. Just a quick hitter type of chore that I don't have to think about. Also, when I sit down to eat breakfast, I read my daily devotional, formulate and put together my post for my Get To It Facebook page and tweet, and then scroll through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
When breakfast is done, I finish getting ready, let Lady out one more time before she goes into her kennel, then I grab my coffee and my bags: workout, work, lunch, and purse. I'm out the door. It's almost 2 1/2 hours of time where I get a lot accomplished but I don't have to think about what I'm doing, because I have the routine established and I just do it.
On my way to work I listen to a 12-15 minute podcast and then when I get to school it's go time and I'm ready to face whatever is thrown at me during the day.
What morning routine do you have established? What do you enjoy most about it?
