There are some days when we just need a win. We can't seem to get out of our own way. One negative turns into another, and before we know it, we are spiraling downward.
While logically we know it's a phase or we're just in a little funk, it still sucks. And by golly, we just need a win!
Enter simplicity. Enter the routine to-do list.
I'm not kidding. Sometimes just being able to knock off a few routine chores is all that is needed to kickstart the winning streak and will get us back on track.
After an incredibly frustrating week professionally in which I came home and cried on three different days (in a five-day week, and one of those days was a sick day...so four days, friends), I needed a win terribly.
This is what I've accomplished so far today:
*Made breakfast and got dressed
*Dropped off recycling
*Filled the car up with gas
*Bought two birthday gifts, a book, and picked up Starbucks coffee for us
*Walked to pick up the mail
*Updated my job search
*Dusted the bedroom
*Sorted and started laundry
*Conversed with my husband while watching the Husker football game
*Updated my calendar
Have I done anything monumental?
But do I feel better?
Sometimes we need to check off the mundane tasks to see that we're being productive. Not in a deep work way, mind you, but in a way that makes us feel productive nonetheless.
On those days when you feel like nothing is going right, make a list of all the little things you've done no matter how mundane or routine they might be.
Because sometimes we simply need a win.
